Fashion design in the golf world is not that different from the rest of the world. Styles may come and go, but they often return, sometimes in a different shape or form.

Women’s golf skorts are directly at the intersection where form meets function. The skort has been traditional wardrobe staple in golf, but it has seen as resurgence in recent years as new modern materials and stylish designs have reinvigorated their approach.

What is a skort? Skorts are a cross between a skirt and shorts, providing the dual benefits of functionality and comfort, with the clean and stylish look of a traditional skirt. The modern skort provides the look of a flowy skirt, while the lining of shorts underneath is barely noticeable.

One company that is at the forefront of the evolution of the golf skort is Prospect Heights-based Golftini, which has been making fashionable yet functional upscale golf wear for 15 years. Golftini offers a huge selection women’s skorts, as well as tops, pants, outerwear and accessories.

Golftini clothes are sold at more than 500 pro shops worldwide, including numerous clubs in the Chicagoland area. They can also be found at specialty retail stores such as PGA Tour Superstore as well as on the company’s website (goftiniwear.com).

I was immediately excited to check out Golftini’s skorts because of their reputation for quality and style. They are know for using the best materials and design elements to manufacture products that look great, feel great and retain those attributes for a long time.

The first skort that I tested was the Island Hopper, which is a blue and white floral print stretch cotton skort, that comes in a standard 17.5″ length and a 19″ length. The 97% cotton and 3% spandex material includes a loose-fitting short of the same fabric.

The Island Hopper features a fresh, sporty design with splashy accents including buttons on the two flap front pockets. I also liked the two back pockets, which are quite handy when I’m playing golf, tennis or other competitive endeavor.

The First Class is a khaki, white and black performance stretch skort from Golftini that features a fun graphic flower print. This skort is made from a 86% poly, 14% spandex blend that is perfect for an active lifestyle.

Having the right performance fabric is essential for the needs of the proper golf swing, which requires weight shift on the takeaway, through a complete forward rotation on the follow through. I loved the flexibility of this material and the functionality of the First Class and its fluidity throughout my golf swing.

The First Class features deep side pockets, which are super helpful throughout your round. Another cool detail is the back pocket that is wide enough to hold your scorecard and also features contemporary a ribbon detail trim.

Another standout skort from Golftini is The Weekender, which offers a classic black and white print that pairs really well with just about any top. This skort is 18″ in length and includes a comfortable 3″ contour stretch waistband.

The Weekender is made with a 95% poly, 5% spandex material that moves really well and still looks great after an 18-hole round. It has a similar, highly functional back scorecard pocket as The First Class.

All three of these fashionable skorts are perfect for golf, as well as just about any other active sport. The combination of the smooth lines and premium materials help accentuate the stylish shape of the skirt with all the practicable aspects of a short. That means they look great before, during and after your event, without any rubbing or discomfort.

Golftini has taken the functionality of the skort to new levels by focusing on the shape, form, color and texture of their designs. This extreme focus on the details has produced a new level of form, fit, function and fashion that the golf world will appreciate for years to come.
